lyrics We keep making false starts Crazy in head/ Gentle at heart Repeating thesame mistakes Live in doubt/ Walk in faith I keep singing while you dance Where I stand is clear Why are you here? Why are you here Why do you care? Why are you here? Why do you care? Why are you here/ Why do you care? Why are you here/ Why do you care? Don't go! Before you make your mind Your mind is already made Can't follow your heart Your heart will follow you So why not a take a stand You don't really really really really have to be here Why are you here? Why are you here Why do you care? Why are you here? Why do you care? Why are you here/ Why do you care? Why are you here/ Why do you care? Don't go!

about

Awesome things sometimes happen out of simple or least exciting moments.

By sheer lack, a series of events led me to the Converse Rubber tracks studio in Brooklyn where I was invited to spend a day in the studio to record with seasoned professionals who were going to produce whichever track I wanted to produce.

I had completely different ideas going into the studio because I knew it was a huge opportunity I cdn't just pass so my intention was to try to maximise the opportunity to record the most number of tracks that I felt were everyone's favorite at our shows and that were worth recording and holding for posterity. I just didn't know when I could afford a studio of that caliber so this opportunity meant bringing everything to the table and making the most out of the opportunity.

At this time, we were still playing a lot around the McKibbin scene but I had also ventured into the DIY scene a lot more and had started working on ideas for the first phases of aputumpu.

Once again, I didn't have the most concrete group around me, but Dan, drums and Benham bass, were in town except on this day Benham couldn't escape work. Without a guitarist at my disposal, I invited Raja Kassis who had been playing with Blitz regularly at the time. Raja had previously played with my cousin, Derrick's band, Soulfege on guitar. As busy as he is, he agreed and did me the favor. Freddy Fuego who held gigs with me from time to time agreed to feature, as well Isaiah Richardson who at the time was a legendary subway performer. Isaiah has a few New York times reviews under his belt and subs for a few Broadway shows. Both gentlemen played horns. In Michael's absence, a gentleman who was interning at the Rubbertracks studio offered to play bass. he kept simple, tight and nice.

No single recording of mine has done so much for the band on a PR level as the recordings from Rubbertracks. Why are you here got us on Afropunk, Afropop and other awesome platforms and stages because of its crossover tune and the revolutionary nature in which the tracks blends cultures and genres.

John Steam Records produced our first ever Vinyl based on hearing "Why are you here?" Mama Told me got us on Okay Africa and MTV Iggy with other awesome press coming into place since the release of these tracks initially as singles. The tracks have all been exhausted, so here is an EP that tells the story of our journey. Doanload it, share it and enjoy it!

about

Osekre New York, New York

"This Afro-indie band can’t be pinned to any one genre but instead transcends all, with lyrical and reflective beats. The band “turns local sounds global and brings global sounds local” with its clear African influence, but its sound goes beyond this, creating a universal funk that anyone would want to jam to.
